1966 Karate in Richmond Park
Ever since I first saw this image of Sensei Kanazawa performing Yoko Tobi Geri it has amazed me. It was taken by Sensei Michael Randall in Richmond Park during 1966. Karate had only been taught in the UK for a few years and Sensei Kanazawa and Sensei Enoeda had only arrived in London in early 1965. Quite apart from the excellent technique and physical athleticism the composition itself is amazing and for me what makes this photo is the onlooker in the backgound staring at this spectacle, what must they have been thinking ?
